What actually goes in a resume
Six sections, in the order a reader wants them. This is the bit nobody explains, so here it is on the page rather than behind a sign-up.
Your name and what you do
Two lines at the top. Not an objective, not a paragraph about yourself — the job title you are going for, in the words the advert uses.

A short summary
Three sentences at most. Say how long you have done this, the kind of place you have done it in, and the one thing you are best at. Written last, once the rest exists.
Like this: Operations manager with eleven years in logistics. Runs multi-site distribution networks and is happiest fixing the planning cycle nobody else wants to touch.
Experience
Most recent first. For each job: what you ran, how big it was, and what changed because you were there. The last part is what most people leave out and it is the part that gets read.
Like this: Rebuilt the weekly planning cycle; on-time delivery went from 82% to 97% across four sites.
Skills
The tools and methods you would be comfortable being asked about in an interview. Not a wish list — a recruiter will ask, and the software reads this section literally.

Education and training
What you studied and where, with the year. If you have been working a while this goes near the bottom and stays short. A course that is actually relevant belongs here too.

Anything that is genuinely yours
Languages, a certification, volunteering you actually did, a side project that is relevant. One or two, not a list. Leave it out entirely rather than padding it.

You can rename any of them, drop the ones that do not apply to you, and add your own. Nothing here is compulsory.

What is the resume generator?
The resume generator is for people who do not have a resume yet. Instead of uploading a file, you start from an empty page where the sections and their headings are already in place. You fill them in one at a time, in any order, and the printed page beside them updates as you type. Nothing is written for you unless you ask, and if you want help with one line, only that line changes. Examples show what belongs in each section and wording you can use, which helps with a first resume or a change of field. When the words are down, you choose one of 61 designs. From the same page you can also make a plain single-column version for the application software that reads resumes first. Writing and trying designs is free with an account. Downloading the PDF costs €2.99 once, and the resume then stays in your account for one year.
Application systems read resumes before people do, and their vendors explain which files and layouts they can parse.

Nothing is written for you unless you ask. If you want a hand with one line, you can ask for that one line — the rest stays exactly as you wrote it.

When there is not much to put down
First job, or changing field
If this is your first resume, a short experience section is fine. Include work you have done, such as a placement, summer job or society role. Describe what you were responsible for, not just your title.
If you are changing field, lead with the parts of your old job that the new one also needs, in the new field's words. Do not hide the change; a reader who notices it and finds no explanation assumes the worst.
Either way, a short honest resume beats a long padded one. The check will tell you if something important is missing.

Questions and answers
I have never written a resume. Where do I start?
Open the generator and fill in the top two lines — your name and the job title you are going for. Then do Experience. The summary is easiest written last, once you can see what is in the rest.
Do I have to upload anything?
No. That is the difference between this page and the one-click resume. Here you start from an empty page and type.
What if I have almost no experience?
Put down what you have and describe what you were responsible for rather than what you were called. A short honest resume reads better than a padded one, and the check tells you if something important is missing.
What does it cost?
Writing and trying designs is free with an account. Downloading the PDF costs €2.99 once, and it stays in your account for one year. Essentials includes the download and replaces your current resume. Premium includes it alongside your other resumes. Neither plan renews.
Can I change it later?
An empty page you started yourself stays editable. A bought resume stays in your account, downloadable for a year from the day you paid; after that it is deleted.
